Kate Rogers
Artist member since 2020
Vancouver, British Columbia
Kate Rogers mixed-media art practice uses collage, drawing, painting, photography and video, to address the cultural construction and representation of women. Often mixing cheap materials or domestic items with fine art materials, Kate plays with ideas of kitsch and its associations with women's crafts and labour. In her pieces, she explores metaphors of the fragmented female body, haunting and the marginalised spaces of the domestic. Her work depicts the female experience as one that is made strange through gender codes and an invasive spectatorship that results in self-censorship.
Kate is a graduate of Emily Carr University's MFA 2020 Program. She also holds a BFA from the Ontario College of Art and Design in Drawing & Painting, and a BFA in Contemporary Dance from York University.
